SANTA CLARITA LIVING
Your weekend in the valley · from Michelle and Jon Dubner
Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, and Santa Clarita has a rare mix of choices: a free neighborhood haunt, the City's longtime family celebration, the final weekend at Gilchrist Farm and full-scale scares at Six Flags. Jon and I checked the dates, times and official links Wednesday. The real estate section below also pulls from our live website so the open houses and active listings stay current. Here is the fun-first list for October 30 through November 1. |

This weekend's fun-first shortlist Five verified ways to make Halloween weekend feel local Build a home-haunt driving tour, choose Viva Halloween for an easy family Friday, walk through Bar Harbor Scares, take one last harvest-festival lap at Gilchrist Farm, or go bigger with Fright Fest. |
The Weekend Wow Viva Halloween brings 27 years of family fun to Newhall |
| Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., the Newhall Community Center hosts costumes, trick-or-treating, carnival games, a haunted house and the Youth Sports Zombie Run. It is the kind of plan that gives kids several things to do without turning the whole evening into a complicated production. |
Our Two Picks The plans Michelle and Jon would choose |
 | Michelle's Pick SCV Home Haunt Tour Since I have a house full of teenagers, this is the Halloween plan I would choose for teens who are past trick-or-treating but would still have fun seeing some really creative neighborhood displays. Pick a few stops, load everyone into the car and make your own tour. |
 | Jon's Pick Bar Harbor Scares Jon likes something active and local. This free neighborhood walk-through is easy to work into Halloween night and still has enough atmosphere for adults. |

Where to Go Go bigger with Fright Fest after dark |
| Fright Fest begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Six Flags notes that the event is not recommended for children under 13, and admission to haunted mazes requires a separate Haunted Attractions Pass. |
What to Do Take one last fall lap around Gilchrist Farm |
| The 2026 Harvest Festival closes Sunday, November 1. Weekend hours are 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with free admission and parking. Pig races, goat-milking demonstrations, live music, food and paid farm activities fill out the day. |

Local Spotlight A neighborhood haunt with old-school atmosphere |
| Bar Harbor Scares is a free, family-friendly walk-through at 23935 Bar Harbor Court on Friday and Saturday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Expect fog, sound effects, pop-up animatronics and enough spooky detail to keep adults entertained too. |
Seasonal Moment Make Halloween easier on your own block |
Turn on the porch light before dusk, move hoses and decorations out of the walking path, and keep pets in a quiet room before the doorbell starts. If you are driving after dark, slow down before every crosswalk and assume a child may step out from between parked cars. A little preparation keeps the night fun for everyone. |

 | Behind the Brand Why this week's picks sound like us With a house full of teenagers, I like a Halloween plan that still feels festive after trick-or-treating has lost some of its appeal. Jon leans toward something you can move through and experience instead of just watching. A home-haunt route and Bar Harbor Scares fit us pretty well. |
